Let's talk about Tulip Time đ· |
The city of Holland will âwelkomâ thousands of visitors this weekend as the 95th Tulip Time Festival kicks off on Saturday. From parades to pickleball, hereâs a guide for all the must-see activities. Did you know Dutch Dancing has been part of Hollandâs Tulip Time Festival since 1933? In 1953, the Dance of the Zuider Zee performance was choreographed, and costume standards were developed. The same song, dance and costumes are what thousands of visitors will experience this weekend. If youâre planning to go to the festival this year, give yourself some extra time as an ongoing road project could cause some delays. |

Michiganâs weekend weather: Just too stormy over Pacific for us to have entirely dry weekend |
Enjoy: The basic theme for the weekend is fairly warm compared to normal. Also we should have a quick moving upper-air disturbance moving through Saturday night and Sunday morning. While there will be some rain this weekend, itâs only going to be one shot of a couple of hours of rain. You can expect most of the weekend to be dry and quite pleasant. Orange cone season: If youâre hitting the road this weekend, you may want to check a Michigan construction map first. Here's a look at nine of the significant closures to account for this weekend. Look up: A new month of stargazing is here, bringing with it promises of warmer nights and a few sky highlights worth an early wake-up or two. |

No arrests signal âhands-offâ approach as tents for Gaza came to 3 Michigan universities |
Student protesters: Encampments at three public universities in Michigan are protesting Israel and supporting Palestinian resistance. College leaders have kept themselves, and police, at arms distance. An update: Workers at one Michigan Amazon facility picketed during Prime Week last year. They have now filed an unfair labor practice complaint in response to Amazon's alleged actions. Be aware: Recently receive a text message from an unknown number claiming you owed money for not paying a road toll? Yeah, thatâs a scam. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel on Thursday, May 2, issued an advisory of the recent âsmishing scamâ targeting toll road users. |

5 takeaways from Trumpâs May rally in Michigan |
Six weeks after his Democratic opponent campaigned there, Donald Trump spent about two hours on Saginaw County soil Wednesday, May 1, in his campaign to win back the presidency. Here are 5 takeaways from the rally. "Went fairly well": MBS International Airport Manager James Canders said early estimates indicate about 6,500 people attended the political rally for Trump. The attendance volume and logistics involved in receiving a presidential candidate made for a âhecticâ experience for airport staff and organizers, but the rally began and ended without any major issues. Canders said everyone in line for the rally gained entry. In court: Former House Speaker Lee Chatfield and his wife, Stephanie, were arraigned Wednesday on charges alleging they used different schemes to embezzle, steal and convert both private and public monies to fund a lavish lifestyle. Lee Chatfield is charged with 13 counts â all felonies â in total. His wife faces two similar charges. |

Lions draft pick is a âdirtbagâ on the offensive line, and proud of it |
Great value in the 210th overall pick: After three long days at the NFL draft, Lions general manager Brad Holmes put the bow on his latest class by selecting Boston College guard Christian Mahogany in the sixth round. A player many analysts liked for Detroit in the middle of the draft. Quote: âI was shocked (Mahogany fell that far),â Holmes said. âI didnât think he would still be there at that point. I canât really go into details. I can probably point out a thing here or there that may have been a reason that weâll keep internally, but thereâs other players that I probably would have had a lot more questions on that went. I donât know. I just know that he fits how we want to play. Heâs a tough, physical -- heâs got some dirtbag in him, and heâs just one of those tough Jersey kids that doesnât take a lot of crap.â Not so fast: Another plan for a new NFL stadium in Chicago could be dead in the water. Or next to the water. The Bearsâ plan to build a new $5 billion stadium on the Lake Michigan lakefront is a ânon-starter,â according to a spokesperson for Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker. |
