Between the opening of a country bar in Bay City to a new Asian-style market in Ann Arbor, there are new businesses popping up all over Michigan. The recently opened Orange Market on 1118 Broadway St. in Ann Arbor offers Asian and American groceries, household products, wine, “grab and go” options like fresh fruits and vegetables and more. They also carry kimchi, Korean pears, noodles, rice and frozen kimbap and dumplings. Mackinac Island's Inn at Stonecliffe resort is set to reopen after a $30 million renovation and expansion. The new Milliken Nature Center near Arch Rock is also expected to open in May. |

| The ‘most affordable’ community to buy a house in the U.S. is in Michigan |
Homeowners: Michigan is home to the nation’s “most affordable” community to buy a house when evaluating ZIP codes with 10,000 or more people. Flint's 48505 ZIP code has a median home price of $27,703, according to real-estate marketplace Zillow. When compared to the community’s median income, $29,061, the 48505 ZIP code has a home-price-to-household-income rate of 0.95 -- the lowest in the U.S., according to an analysis by American Home Shield, a home warranty company based in Tennessee. A low rate means high affordability. New builds: Four vacant properties in Grand Rapids will see new life under tentative plans to build or rehabilitate single-family homes on them. |

‘One of the neatest mornings I can recall.’ Residents awed by white pelicans at Michigan lake |
Birds of a feather: Pleasant Lake residents in Jackson County had an "unforgettable" morning as large flock of 40 and 50 white pelicans gathered along the shore of an island in the middle of the lake on Wednesday. Two residents Mike Sharp and his son, Chris, also spotted a pair of bald eagles perched in a tree above the pelicans. Spring migration: While it isn’t uncommon to see a large flock of American white pelicans in Michigan during this time of year, the species only recently began nesting in the state, said Tom Prestby, Audubon Great Lakes’ conservation manager for Wisconsin. Another bird: The first piping plover to return to the Great Lakes region this spring has been reported at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, kicking off another breeding season for the federally endangered shorebird. |

Wind Advisory: Wind gusts could reach 50 mph across Michigan on Friday |
Friday storm: Get ready for a blustery Friday as winds whip across Michigan. A Wind Advisory now covers all of the Lower Peninsula and the eastern corner of the Upper Peninsula, north to Sault Ste. Marie. It’s in effect from 8 a.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday. Weekend outlook: After a rainy and windy storm blows through Michigan on Friday, our weekend will be sunny and warm. Saturday will have dry conditions, clear skies and a plethora of sunshine. Sunday is expected to continue that warmth as temps in the 70s grace a majority of the state. In the environment: Federal nuclear energy regulators will host a public information meeting about the possible repowering of the closed Palisades nuclear plant on April 17 in Benton Harbor. |

40 kilos of fentanyl – enough to kill every Michigan resident – seized from stash house |
Busted: A Michigan gas station owner is charged with federal drug crimes after an investigation led to the seizure of 40 kilograms of fentanyl, a pill press, $100,000 in cash and other evidence, officials said. This case is the largest seizure of fentanyl in the state to date, officials said. In Kent County: About 3,200 grams of marijuana, 4,100 vape pens, two handguns and nearly $40,000 was seized from Nature’s Edge in Oakfield Township northeast of Grand Rapids. The business is accused of selling marijuana products to minors. A lawsuit asks for $375,000, alleging then-police chief Tressa Beltran for the Hartford Police Department demanded pain medication from an injured man and threatened to make his life hell if he did not comply. |

Not quite Tinseltown: It wasn’t meant to be a clone of the famous Hollywood sign, but Detroit’s new gateway sign is being compared to the one in California, which has some people calling it underwhelming. From the overall cost to discrepancies in how the sign was expected to look, we answered a few questions about the city's newest landmark. Also in Detroit: Michigan’s second tallest skyscraper has reached a construction milestone as the final steel beam has been lifted into place, 681 feet up. The Hudson Site in downtown Detroit is the largest ground-up development in the last 50 years in the city. In Grand Rapids: Gerald R. Ford International Airport has begun a $135 million project to expand its terminal and make traveling more efficient and convenient. The project is expected to be complete in 2027. |
