When news broke on Saturday that Joe Biden had been elected the next president of the United States, celebrations and protests broke out across Michigan. Trump supporters gathered at the Capitol in Lansing and people in Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo hit the streets to celebrate Biden's victory. On Sunday morning, Governor Gretchen Whitmer - who was at one point a top consideration to be Biden’s running mate - asked to be withdrawn from consideration for a position in his Cabinet. Whitmer wants to work with Biden from Michigan, rather than Washington, she said.
