In today's newsletter, a guide to voting in the November election, how sandwiches were involved in a Big House tunnel scuffle and the weekend forecast just keeps getting better and better.

Draymond Green and the word "Sagnasty."

As a Saginaw native, I've got plenty of experience hearing the term "Sagnasty." The word is used with varying intentions. It's interpreted using different perspectives. It's written on pieces of clothing worn by residents — mostly hats, it seems.

The term, love it or hate it, was trademarked by a fellow native of Saginaw, NBA star Draymond Green, in 2016. According to an attorney, Green wanted to sell apparel emblazoned with the city's nickname. Perhaps those hats I regularly see are Green's products.

How do I vote? Who are my candidates? Your guide to the November election.

Voting absentee? Remember, your absentee ballot must be received by your local clerk or be in your local drop box by close of polls on Election Day – 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8. Here are some tips for absentee voting.

Speaking of elections: Southfield City Clerk Sherikia Hawkins pleaded no contest to one count of misconduct in office, four years after she tried to cover up an apparently accidental failure to count 193 absentee votes in the 2018 election.

Michigan's declining enrollment trend continues with a poor showing for fall 2022.

Another year of decline: Michigan colleges have posted the nation’s steepest enrollment decline by percentage this fall semester, with a 4.1% decline from fall 2021. This continues the negative enrollment trend in the state that has ranked near the bottom in the U.S. for the last few years.

Dig deeper: We recently highlighted a series of stories from MLive's Matt Miller focused on declining enrollment at many of Michigan's public universities. He also looked at why the big names schools tend to avoid the trends.

Speaking of higher ed:After recent scandals at the University of Michigan, new President Santa Ono says he is ready to lead U-M to a "better place." Apparently that place includes conversations about NIL.

Whitmer vetoes bills on governor's powers and changes to deer kill reporting laws.

Emergency orders: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer vetoed legislation last week which would have given Michigan lawmakers the final say in whether emergency orders issued by the executive branch can last longer than 28 days.

Deer kill reporting: Those who do not report a deer harvest within 72 hours of its happening will still face the possibility of fines or even jail time after Gov. Whitmer rejected a bill looking to reverse course on the issue.

In other state government news:Michigan will pay $20 million to workers falsely accused of unemployment fraud, Attorney General Dana Nessel announced this week.

The tunnel at the Big House and a controversy featuring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

PB+J goes flying:Recently, Penn State's coach was complaining about the tunnel at the Big House, saying it creates an environment where scuffles will occur. Last weekend, an incident occurred that involved shouting and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

'Sack the Stigma:' Since we are already talking about the Wolverines, you might also be interested in this piece that explains why some Michigan football players have been seen wearing “Sack the Stigma” apparel.

Football action this weekend: While the Wolverines and Spartans both have a bye week before next weekend's big rivalry game, the Lions will be back to face off with the Cowboys, who will have their starting QB back for the matchup.

The weekend forecast keeps looking better and better. How high will the temps go?

The latest from Mark Torregrossa: "The weekend forecast is a very simple one. We don’t have to talk about precipitation. We don’t have to talk about who gets rain and who gets snow. We just have to talk about what cities hit 75 degrees and what cities only make it to 70 degrees."

Expect light winds: For it to really warm up nicely at this time of year, we will have to deal with some breeze. Winds won’t be strong this weekend, but gusts will be brisk.

Perfect weekend for leaf peeping:With the lovely weather, it will be a great time to check out fall foliage. And it might be your last chance, as an incoming storm system might blow the leaves off the trees next week. Here's a list of all the don't-miss routes throughout Michigan for fall color drives.
