Heat and humidity to make Michigan sweat, according to June forecast You might want to seek out a local splash park or call your friend with a pool because it is about to get HOT, Michigan. Not only will the temperatures soar, according to MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa, but the humidity will be high this month. That's a double dose of summer feels -- the kind of feels that will make you sweat. If you love the heat, you are in for an early summer treat. READ MORE ►The June forecast is out and it's orange for all of Michigan Pandemic hasn't spurred 'eviction tsunami,' but experts fear it could still hit Pre-pandemic – as Michigan’s economy was churning along – there were about 14,000 eviction case filings per month. When COVID-19 hit and millions lost their jobs in Michigan, experts dreaded a “tsunami” of evictions. But the opposite happened. A report from the University of Michigan shows evictions in the state plummeted to nearly zero during the early part of the pandemic. Now, evictions have crept closer to pre-pandemic numbers in Michigan. But the feared “tidal wave” of evictions could start in July, as the Centers for Disease Control eviction moratorium ends June 30. READ Michigan’s independent redistricting commission is teaming up with a 24-hour community helpline to help people weigh in on the process of drawing the state’s next political maps. Starting Monday, Michigan residents will be able to call the statewide 2-1-1 helpline to get assistance with registering to comment during the commission’s ongoing public hearings. It’s the latest effort by the commission to cast a wide net for encouraging residents to participate in the process, which for the first time is being led by a 13-member commission made up of five independents, four Republicans and four Democrats who aren’t affiliated with politicians. MORE NASCAR's return to MIS won't include capacity limits, mask requirements A handful of die-hard NASCAR fans peered through an exterior fence last August to get a glimpse of the races at Michigan International Speedway. That won’t be necessary this year, as MIS announced on Wednesday that the track will open at full capacity for fans this year – and with no mask requirement. It will be the first MIS race weekend with fans allowed since August 2019. “No race weekend is complete without fans and we are beyond excited and ready to welcome them back to (MIS) with no restrictions,” MIS President Rick Brenner said in a news release.
