Kalamazoo health care leaders ‘alarmed’ at COVID-19 resurgence, urge the unvaccinated to act quickly Multiple area healthcare leaders are urging people to get their COVID-19 vaccine. Leaders of Ascension Borgess, Bronson Healthcare Group, Family Health Center, Battle Creek’s Grace Health and the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine are pleading with unvaccinated residents to get their shot amid rising COVID-19 cases in Michigan. A message came in over the radio reporting that two volunteers on horseback had found Madison. READ MORE Isle Royale pack leader, young wolves among those with new GPS collars With new young wolves to track and the GPS collars on some of Isle Royale’s transplanted wolves no longer transmitting, researchers this spring headed to the remote island in Lake Superior for a little catch-collar-and-release. Their efforts in April and May have paid off, the National Park Service announced this week. A group of scientists and wildlife workers used foothold traps to catch and collar five wolves. The group included four young wolves who had not been collared before and are believed to have been born on the island in 2020, as well as a male wolf known as W012M, which was brought to Isle Royale in 2019 from Michipicoten Island, Ontario, also in northern Lake Superior. This wolf’s original collar, put on him during his re-location, needed a replacement with new batteries.
