The numbers: In 2022, 67% of assessed federal-aid roads qualified as good or fair, according to the Michigan Transportation Asset Management Council’s annual report. Last year’s grades were an improvement from 2020, when 57.6% of roads met that mark. How they're graded: Roads are rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Roads rated 8 to 10 are considered “good,” while roads rated 5 to 7 are “fair” and roads with a rating of 1 to 4 are “poor.” Here's a map that shows the latest road grades. While we're on the road: Road construction is continuing this week as Michigan begins more than 90 new projects that will close lanes and ramps around the state. |

Michigan gets nearly $15M federal grant to improve power grid resilience |
Michigan will receive nearly $15 million in federal grant money to improve the electric grid and reduce the impacts of extreme weather. Michigan will spend the grant money over the next two years to increase the number of skilled workers who can do the grid improvement work, as well as support non-wired alternative projects. The Michigan Public Service Commission is investigating Consumers Energy after receiving persistent complaints from customers about malfunctioning natural gas meters, potential overbilling due to extended estimated meter reading and delays in new service installations for electric and gas customers. Also in public interest:This Kalamazoo financial firm opened in 1998 with a single client, now it manages $17 billion. |

Background: Atlanta, an unincorporated town of 720 in northeast Michigan, was dubbed Trump Country after the 2016 Republican primary because it had the highest number of voters per population who went for then-candidate Donald Trump at 11.28%, out of 13 potential Republican presidential candidates. An update: Now, less than a year before a 2024 primary the former president could win despite legal woes – Trump faces federal and New York criminal charges – little love is lost. Tigers enter break with tough loss as Jays rally to win finale |
Defeated: Closer Alex Lange gave up a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays took the lead in extras to beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park. But before: The Jays (50-41) took two of three from the Tigers (39-50), losing only on Saturday when the Tigers threw a combined no-hitter. MLB Draft 2023: The Detroit Tigers selected high school outfielder Max Clark with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 Major League Draft. |
