Since contract negotiations between the UAW and General Motors have been unsuccessful so far, GM workers across the country are on strike. Janitorial workers who are employed by a separate company but work at GM buildings were the first to strike, hoping for higher pay and improved health benefits. As far as autoworkers are concerned, the strike started when communication between the UAW and GM broke down, according to the Associated Press. The strike impacts 49,000 workers.
