I'm a sucker for limited-time menu items at restaurants. I was pretty upset when I forgot to snag a McDonald's shamrock shake last month. (Fun fact: It comes around twice a year in my hometown of St. Johns for our Mint Festival in August ☘️) So I'm delighted to tell you McDonald's released a new spring McFlurry flavor, Strawberry Shortcake. Oh and a few fan favorite pizzas are back with Jet’s serving BLT pizza for first time since 2021 and Little Caesars brought back its Pretzel Crust Pizza for limited time. Going down: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors in 2022, the lowest visitation number for the northwest lower Michigan park since 2014. Welcome back: The first piping plover to return to the Great Lakes region this spring has been reported at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, marking the official start of another breeding season for the federally endangered shorebird. Another top spot: From upgrades at Mackinac’s popular resorts like Mission Point and Grand Hotel, to new restaurants downtown and new exhibits at Fort Mackinac, it’s going to be a busy year for Mackinac Island, here's what is new for 2023. |

For the past five years, leaders in metro Grand Rapids have been brainstorming about how to improve services for people experiencing a mental-health crisis. Those talks have led to new initiatives and expansions of existing programs. One person at a time: As Grand Rapids bolsters its mental-health service network, participants say the successes are reflected in the individuals whose lives are impacted. Here are stories shared by a Grand Rapids psychiatrist, a police sergeant, and a social worker. A new tool: West Michigan residents can now text a free, confidential hotline if they are in experiencing a mental health crisis and need immediate support or intervention. |

Potential candidates to replace Dwane Casey as Pistons head coach |
Moving on: Dwane Casey provided the Detroit Pistons with much-needed stability at the head coach position. But after five seasons, both Casey and the Pistons will go in a different direction. “This is my decision”: Following Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls, the Pistons afforded Casey a rare opportunity. He personally announced that he is stepping down as coach of the Pistons, and will transition to a front office role. Here is a look at several potential candidates that could fill the Pistons vacancy. Speaking of basketball: The NBA set attendance records across the board during the 2022-23 regular season, the league announced Monday. The league says it broke records for total attendance, average attendance, percentage of capacity and sellouts this year. |
