All eyes on Michigan as presidential map tightens nationally Leading up to Election Day, officials warned that restrictions in place for counting those ballots would lead to a delay in election results. That prediction is now a reality, as the entire country waits on a small number of states to finish counting their votes so a winner can be declared in the presidential race. All eyes are on Michigan now (and Wisconsin and Pennsylvania). As of 5 a.m., all three Midwestern states were too close to call. Here in Michigan, vote totals favored Trump, 51.72% to 46.68% as of 5 a.m., with 81% of the projected vote counted. However, in many parts of the state, the absentee vote — which is expected to lean Democratic — is still outstanding. Around the same time, President Donald Trump, whose Twitter account was quiet throughout much of the night, took to the social platform to claim without evidence that his opponents were trying to steal the election.
