80 Michigan communities are blocking recreational marijuana businesses
Michigan voters made national headlines in November after becoming the the 10th state in the nation to approve recreational marijuana. However, dozens of communities across the state are not wasting any time putting a stop to local recreational cannabis shops before they even get started. At least 80 communities have banned or are moving to ban recreational marijuana retail stores and related businesses. The state has until December 2019 to formulate the rules and regulations for the new industry before it can start accepting business license applications. MORE

Where do University of Michigan students hail from?
 
Just over half the students at the University of Michigan hail from the state of Michigan. In fact, this fall U-M enrolled students from 82 of Michigan's 83 counties. (The Upper Peninsula's Keweenaw County was the lone holdout.) However, Ann Arbor is a major national and international draw. Out of state students make up a whopping 49 percent of the student body. There are more than 2,000 students on campus from three states: California, Illinois and New York.

Yes, 2018 was a very wet year for most of Michigan
 
The Thumb wouldn't know it, but for most of the Mitten, 2018 was downright drenching. Parts of southern Michigan had nearly a foot more rain than average this past year.
