Aidan Hutchinson led a huge breakthrough for the Detroit Lions' defense as the team improved to 2-1 after defeating the Atlanta Falcons 20-6 at Ford Field. Of course, the fans pulled through too. After the Lions’ Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the vibrant tailgate atmosphere in Detroit’s Eastern Market remained undiminished. The Lions are guaranteed to at least share control of the NFC North heading into a prime-time showdown against the Green Bay Packers. Here's what’s being said nationally after the win. |

Best weather model shows warmer-than-normal for a long time |
A warm fall: The European Model, which is usually the best model for extended forecasts, has an output that goes out 45 days in the future. It shows the atmosphere over most all of the U.S. is expected to be expanded due to warm air aloft. Breaking it down: We start October a few degrees warmer than normal, warm to 10 degrees above normal a week into October and then ease back to a few degrees warmer than normal to end the month. Garden Talk: You might not think about planting in your vegetable garden at this time of year. If you love garlic, now is the time to plant it. |

UAW calls upon 38 GM, Stellantis parts locations to join strike |
The United Auto Worker strike against Detroit automakers expanded to 38 more parts plants on Friday. The parts production shutdown spreads across 20 states. In Michigan, 13 parts plants were folded into the strike. Joining the picket line: President Joe Biden plans to visit Michigan next week in support of union workers. “It’s time for a win-win agreement that keeps American auto manufacturing thriving with well-paid UAW jobs,” Biden said. Recent headlines: GM accuses UAW leadership of ‘manipulating the bargaining process’ as strike expands and UAW puts wage tier system in crosshairs of the strike. |

Michigan GOP leader tells critics to “pound sand” amid pleas for unity at Mackinac |
No kumbaya moment: Even as attendance cratered and many elected Republicans steered clear, a faction of Michigan Republicans convened on Mackinac Island this weekend for the party’s biennial leadership conference. Chair Kristina Karamo, while lambasting the theory of evolution, dispelled rumors she was planning to resign. Also at the conference: Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy pitched himself as a torch-bearer to replace Trump. More in politics: Penalties against businesses that violate Michigan’s child labor laws would jump tenfold under state legislation introduced. |
