How to get to 'Sesame Street'? For Bob, it was by way of the University of Michigan. |
I LOVE "Sesame Street." And not just when I was a kid. I will totally look up clips of the show on YouTube and get lost in the "Ladybugs' Picnic" or get mesmerized for the umpteenth time by those pigs who have "A New Way to Walk." It's such a fun, wholesome trip down memory lane. If you watched a lot of Sesame Street as a child (or as the guardian of a child), you probably know of friendly neighbor Bob Johnson, whose real name was Bob McGrath. He died recently at the age of 90. While reading and reminiscing about Bob, I found out he attended the University of Michigan. You can read more about Bob here. And while we are getting nostalgic and talking about U of M, here's a fun list of Ann Arbor student hangouts that are gone but not forgotten. |

Tax cuts are among the five policies with one last chance to pass Michigan's legislature this term. |
The end of the year: This is shaping up to be the last week of legislative session, with sources saying both the House and Senate will be in session simultaneously only once this week – likely Wednesday. Can they accomplish something as they meet for the last time?
For example, the EITC : Various lawmakers and interest groups throughout the year have been exceedingly interested in raising Michigan’s Earned Income Tax Credit from where it currently sits at at 6%. The most common figures floated for a new EITC threshold are 20% or 30%, with the higher the increase translating to more money for at-need families.
Speaking of Lansing: Some unemployment collections are expected to stop later this month following an August court order. |

The extended weather forecast screams white Christmas for Michigan. |
Let it snow:Last week, we told you how it was a crapshoot whether some parts of Michigan will have snow on the ground for the Christmas holiday. But now, the picture is looking more clear and Mark Torregrossa says there is a good chance the flakes will fly around the time of the holiday. This week: Mark says much of this week looks pretty calm, as far as Michigan weather is concerned. But some accumulating snow could come our way toward the end of the week. Here are the details.
December sky events: The month of December will feature the last full moon of 2022, the rapid-fire Geminid meteor shower, the low-key Ursid meteor shower, a peek at the mythical Pegasus constellation, the “disappearance” of Mars, and bright looks at Jupiter and Saturn. |

Pfizer has announced another expansion of its Kalamazoo County facility. |
$750 million:That's the amount Pfizer is spending on another expansion at its Portage facility, the company announced Monday during a press conference with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The latest expansion will bring a total of 300 new jobs to the facility, not including construction jobs. Continued investment: The announcement represents additional investment on top of the $465 million the company spent to establish the facility, and another $120 million announced to expand production of their COVID-19 antiviral Paxlovid in June. Local reaction: "Obviously, a $750 million investment, in addition to what they have already done, is really incredible for our community because that’s not just 300 jobs, it’s that 300 jobs plus everything else that investment requires, from the construction of the facility to the resources that expansion requires," said state Rep. Christine Morse. |
