Are LGBT book bans discriminatory? Michigan’s civil rights agency wants AG opinion.

Asking for answers: The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is seeking a clarifying opinion from Attorney General Dana Nessel as to whether book bans specifically targeting LGBTQ subjects are discriminatory in nature.

Why: Their request comes following a trend of communities at odds over whether their local libraries should be able to stock certain books on their shelves, the predominance of which feature characters of color or LGBTQ themes.

FBI arrests Michigan man suspected of planning mass shooting at synagogue

The FBI arrested an Upper Peninsula man Friday, June 16 after investigators say he threatened a mass shooting at an East Lansing synagogue. Seann Pietila, 19, was charged with “transmitting a communication containing a threat to injure another” according to a 43-page criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

An update: Zoey the therapy deer and the Saginaw County woman who raised her were split by DNR seizure.

Since the recent runaway wildfire that scorched 2,400 acres southeast of Grayling, some now argue a return of fire to the landscape – using prescribed fires to manage and regenerate forests and grasslands – is the best solution to preventing dangerous wildfires that ultimately harm people and property.
