This week across Michigan will feel like mid-October, not the middle of November. The next few days will see sunny and dry weather across both peninsulas. As the daytime temps inch up, parts of Michigan could see 60 degrees by Thursday. Now it's time to look back. Around this time in 1913, Michigan was hit by a massive winter storm that, over the course of several days, killed 250 people. It was one of the state's worst natural disasters. The weather will not be a problem if you're traveling, however 50 new road closures are scheduled this week as construction season is nearing its end. |

Amazon announces its first Michigan solar farm project |
Something new: Amazon has announced its first renewable energy project in Michigan - a new 85-megawatt solar farm to be built in Van Buren County’s Lawrence Township, the company said on Monday, Nov. 13. The Southwest Michigan solar project will help power Amazon’s local operations, including Amazon fulfilment centers, sorting centers and delivery stations, while also providing new sources of clean power to local communities where the projects are located While we're outside: While easy to overlook throughout most of the year, tamaracks are practically impossible to miss in the fall with their showstopping bright yellow needles. Turning empty offices into housing is trickier than it seems |
Revamping: Two Michigan cities – Grand Rapids and Detroit – are ranked among the highest in the country for future conversions of unused space. And the White House launched an initiative last month to boost turning commercial space into housing. But it’s not as simple as it seems. Causing headaches: Homeowners have been voicing frustration over short-term rentals. Michigan’s short-term rental market rode the wave of major tourism demand over the last few years, but the market is going through growing pains of high guest expectations and stricter regulations. Michigan school attendance on the rise |
Ready for class: Michigan public school students have showed up to class at a higher rate in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, reversing the downward spike during the COVID pandemic. See rates by schools and districts here. Books and barks: Portage West Middle School will be welcoming Winston, a "comfort dog" to support students socially and emotionally. Go on a field trip: A popular outdoors educational program at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is returning for another season. |

Jim Harbaugh seeks ‘due process’ in Friday court hearing vs. Big Ten |
An update:Jim Harbaugh says he plans to attend a court hearing Friday in Ann Arbor that could potentially place a temporary restraining order on his Big Ten-mandated suspension. Overheard: Harbaugh had a lot to say on a variety of topics at his Monday news conference, including declaring his football program “America’s team” and a new stance on chickens. Playoff odds up to 99%: The Detroit Lions outlasted the Los Angeles Chargers in a 41-38 thriller at SoFi Stadium. Dozens of actors, actresses were in Michigan this weekend |
Starstruck: A lot of actors and actresses were in the state this weekend and we took photos of just about all of them. We’re talking stars from shows and movies like “Saturday Night Live,” “Gilmore Girls,” “The Sopranos,” “Stranger Things,” “Star Wars,” and “Karate Kid” just to name a few. More than three dozens of them were at Michigan’s biggest pop culture event, Motor City Comic Con, which took place at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi all weekend. It’s the second edition of the comic con of the year, with the first taking place in May. Coming later : Earth, Wind and Fire is going on tour with Chicago next summer with a stop in Michigan and heavy metal rockers Pantera are coming to Grand Rapids. |
