Still striking: Ford, General Motors and Stellantis are still in the crosshairs for a strike as the final week of negotiations with the United Auto Workers counts down to its final days. If all three Detroit automakers remain the strike target, it will be a first in the UAW’s 88-year history. The impact: A new report released Monday by the Grand Rapids Chamber and the American Immigration Council gives a glimpse at the role foreign-born residents play in Kent County’s economy. 110 doctors, other medical workers sign onto letter objecting to cuts to Ottawa County health budget |
In support: In a letter sent to the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners, 110 doctors, social workers and other medical staff in the county signed their support for the health department to be fully funded at the level it requested back in May. Lower the price: Democrats in Michigan’s legislature have proposed establishing a board that could cap the price of costly prescription drugs, following through on a policy Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called for in her “what’s next” address. More in health: Michigan’s first cases of mosquito-borne viral diseases this year were found in two different horses, state health officials said. |

Feeling chilly: It's going to feel like fall for the next few mornings. The western half of the Upper Peninsula will likely receive the first frost advisories of the fall season. Most of us will have low temps in the 40s with the exception of around the Detroit area holding up into the low-50s. Grab the umbrella: Yes, the three day rain is almost over. The $75 million legal questions of a potential Michigan State-Mel Tucker split |
The stakes are high if Michigan State moves to terminate Mel Tucker's contract in the coming weeks and months: he has more than $75 million remaining on the 10-year contract. Legal experts say there's a range of outcomes should Michigan State seek to fire Tucker and avoid paying out his contract. In the lineup: A couple of 2-0 Big Ten teams will face tough tests this Saturday, with Michigan State hosting No. 8 Washington and Minnesota visiting No. 21 North Carolina. The latest Big Ten rankings were released after somewhat bland week in the conference. Home turf: When the Lions host the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday for the home opener at Ford Field, it’s arguably one of the more anticipated home openers since playing in downtown Detroit. |
