A permanent income tax cut for Michiganders? The legislature is playing coy on the possibility. |
Talk on taxes:Republicans this week had one message for Democratic lawmakers — Do not interfere with a possible income tax rollback that could occur later this year. So far, however, Democrats have not publicly indicated whether they intend to do so, and Republicans would not confirm if it was even being discussed.
House Minority Leader Matt Hall said: "This is an automatic income tax cut that should take effect for all Michigan workers and families and we need to protect it. The Democrats shouldn’t touch it, because that would be a tax increase. And the people in Michigan need relief now." Speaking of the legislature: Democratic control of the Michigan House could be in a state of flux by the end of this year – at least for a short period of time. |

| A new area code is planned for Detroit as '313' numbers run low. |
No longer land of the 313? The Michigan Public Service Commission is looking at adding a second area code in metro Detroit, as "313" phone numbers are projected to be used up by the third quarter of 2025. The new area code would be "679." Voice your opinion: The MPSC is hosting a public hearing on the topic from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on March 9 at Wayne County Community College District’s downtown Detroit campus, in the Frank Hayden Community Room #236, 1001 W. Fort St. Anybody is welcome to watch the presentation, ask questions and make comments on the potential change.
