35,000 flock to Mackinac Bridge for annual Labor Day walk |
Between cookouts, parades and sunny skies, yesterday's Labor Day didn't feel like the end of summer is right around the corner. Thousands of people spent their holiday trekking the Mackinac Bridge during the 65th annual event. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who led this year's walk, called it “another spectacular bridge walk across the Mighty Mac to celebrate Labor Day.” The walk has been a Michigan tradition since 1958, drawing crowds of 20,000 to 30,000 participants in recent years. |

20 Michigan communities with the most deer-vehicle crashes |
Oh, deer: More Michigan drivers crashed into deer in 2022 than any other time in at least the last 10 years. State police reported 58,984 deer-involved crashes throughout the state last year, which was a 13% increase from 2021 and a 20.5% increase from a decade ago. Be aware: After Labor Day, it’s right back to work with more than 120 new road, lane and ramp closures on tap this week, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation’s construction schedule. An update: A Michigan sheriff crashed driving drunk at 96 mph. Months later, he’s still sheriff. |

Making a comeback: The Detroit Lions had the worst defense in the league last season.
