New ways to go over/under
Happy hump day, Baltimore. Here's hoping you're handling the dropping temperatures OK. Today, I've got some news for all the people trying to make money off all the times Jim Harbaugh has Lamar Jackson try a fourth-down conversion instead of just guaranteeing points by letting Justin Tucker be the greatest kicker ever ... but I digress.
Today, Maryland's Sports Wagering Application Review Commission announced it's awarding of the first 10 licenses for mobile sports betting. The approvals went to a mix of companies, including major online betting platform DraftKings (using the name Crown MD Online Gaming), local casinos and even the Washington Commanders. The commission's move follows Maryland voters approving sports betting during the 2020 elections, as well as the introduction of in-person sports betting last year.
While these licenses mainly went to big companies, chances may exist for startups to plug into a market that's set to grow amid the nationwide implementation of mobile sports betting.
