By Bob Warren More bad weather? Not what any of us want to hear, but we could be in for more rough weather on Wednesday. Sorry, folks. The National Weather Service says the New Orleans and Baton Rouge metros are in the threat zone. This, of course, comes just more than a week after a tornado tore across the west bank, Arabi and New Orleans East. Stay safe, friends. Picking up: Months after officials were blasted by frustrated New Orleans residents who watched piles of trash grwo on their curbs, the city has put out a call for new haulers to service nearly half of the city. Ben Myers has more on that story. Big levee, big gripes: The feds are building a big, new levee to protect a swath of the River Parishes west of New Orleans, where storm surge swamped the LaPlace area during Hurricanes Isaac in 2012 and Ida last summer. But big levees require lots of dirt – 150,000 dump trucks full in this case. And in the case of the 19-mile-long, $760 million West Shore Levee that's causing a problem. ‘Tough conversations’: The Saints’ fervor in chasing free agent quarterback Deshaun Watson certainly wasn’t lost on Jameis Winston. So when the Saints didn’t land Watson and turned, again, to Winston, there were obviously some “tough conversations” to be had, the Saints' presumed starter told the media Monday. And here's some bonus Saints news: They're gonna sign a big-name free agent QB to back Winston up. But you have to go here to see who it is. New look Popeyes: Love that chicken? Then you'll get a kick out of the “new look” Popeyes on Canal Street. Self-order kiosks to speed things up. A new color palette. (You had me at NOLA teal!) And, of course, the same great-tasting chicken, our food guy Ian McNulty writes. Hope you enjoyed today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. And of course, be sure to check out NOLA.com for more news throughout the day. BW |
