| | Noom, AI orders and health tech partnerships Most folks have heard about that app Noom, right? Well, there’s a cool guy who goes by the name of Barry Wright working for them here in Baltimore. It’s his second role at a major tech company outside of the city. He’s no stranger to the site, and we think you’ll see that throughout the interview with him we published today. Also in our coverage today, you’ll see that the Moore-Miller administration introduced some changes and a new executive order to bring Maryland into an era of AI. It looks like the executive branch hopes to do this with fairness and equity in mind. You’ll also see (yeah, it was a busy day!) yet another article about a new partnership between 2022 RealLIST Startup Astek Diagnostics and the research arm of MedStar Health. The collaboration includes some new research space for Astek in Hyattsville, among other supports to further the company’s diagnostic innovations for urinary tract infections. Check all those pieces out, and let us know what you think. Otherwise, here are some other points and stories to note from across the city: Open Works is offering half-day and full-day, week-long maker camps for kids this summer. There are some scholarship opportunities available for folks who might be interested. Learn more about Open Works’ youth programming here. You can join CreativeMornings Baltimore as it welcomes Eddie O'Keefe to the stage on Friday, Jan. 26 at Topside at Hotel Revival in Mount Vernon. The Peabody Heights Brewery director of marketing will speak on this month's theme of “Rise.” Registration opens here on Jan. 22. Recipients of CLLCTIVLY's Black Futures Micro-Grant were recently featured on WYPR’s On The Record with Sheilah Kast. Listen here. Interrobang Productions, a theatre company based in Baltimore, will be presenting 12 performances of "I Will Eat You Alive," a play by Katie Hileman, with a premiere at The Voxel on Jan. 25. The production is inspired by a series of interviews and aims to challenge diet culture and fatphobia. Learn more and buy tickets here. EcoMap Technologies was recently featured in The Baltimore Banner. Reporter Hallie Miller visited EcoMap’s offices for a close look at the company’s day-to-day. EcoMap will be hosting a LinkedIn Live event titled "Linked and Loyal: Building a Sticky, Connected Community," featuring Jamie McDonald, former CEO of UpSurge Baltimore, on Jan. 10 at noon. – Technical.ly reporter Alanah Nichole Davis ([email protected]) | | | | By “The state of Maryland is getting a software update.” Read more » By Beyond being chief of staff for Noom, Barry Wright’s plans for 2024 include small, intimate meetups to boost local connections.
