Jesse Boyd, a missionary who has shared the Gospel across America and many other countries for over 20 years, set out to walk across America with two of his kids and two other missionary friends last year.
Jesse has walked from North Carolina to Montana, carrying a cross and an American flag to awaken America to the need of a spiritual revival and talk to stopped motorists about his faith in God.
But that all changed on November 12, when an angry man stopped to confront the missionaries in Madison County, Montana.
The irate man pulled his truck over, yelling expletives at the missionaries – even the children – and telling them they weren’t welcome in his town. When Jesse told him to stop cursing at him and his kids, the man reached for something in his truck and got out, charging at Jesse.
Jesse reacted how any person, any father, would. He pulled his small derringer out; the gun he carries in case they encounter bears or coyotes along the walk. The man appeared to calm down, so Jesse put the gun away.
But as soon as he did, the man attacked Jesse in the presence of his children, pinning him up against his vehicle, punching him in the face, and tackling him to the ground. At that point, Jesse’s daughter and his missionary friends acted frantically to get this man off him. They were eventually able to subdue him.
As the man finally walked away, he told the missionaries that he would make sure they went to jail because he knows the county sheriff. And he did.
Jesse, his teenage daughter, and both of his friends were arrested and have been charged with felony aggravated assault.
All four are spending the holidays confined to their homes with ankle bracelets – monitors they are forced to pay for and wear.
Jesse has had thousands of encounters with people on the 5,500 miles he’s walked so far – it’s part of the purpose of his journey across the country. He doesn’t walk to provoke or attack people. He walks to proclaim the Gospel.
But this man, outraged by the cross, has claimed that Jesse and his kids and friends attacked him for no reason… when he’s the one that pulled over and got out of his truck.
I won’t allow it. NCLU is on the case, and we won’t stop until these phony charges against Jesse, his daughter, and his two friends are dropped.
But I need your support. Because if it can happen in a small town in Montana to a handful of Christ-loving missionaries, it can happen to you and your family.
