Find the latest on the Updraft. Minnesota’s delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives split along party lines in today’s vote on the impeachment of President Donald Trump. Democrats Betty McCollum, Angie Craig, Dean Phillips and Ilhan Omar voted for a single charge of inciting insurrection in the impeachment resolution introduced in the House this morning. Ten Republicans voted for impeachment, none of them from Minnesota. House members Tom Emmer, Pete Stauber, Jim Hagedorn and Michelle Fischbach were among Republicans who argued impeachment will only inflame tensions in a deeply divided country.
COVID-19 fatalities in Minnesota picked up again Wednesday, with 50 new deaths reported by state health officials. The deaths mark the first time since the weekend that the toll has risen above the seven-day running average, and is the highest loss of life reported in one day since earlier this month. But the number of new cases identified by testing continued to ebb overall, to a number comparable to October, before the November surge that prompted restrictions, like the suspension of in-person dining.
