Fly History: The Professor FRED KLEIN is back this week with another look at a classic fly pattern that has stood the test of time: The Professor. Klein, a historian, author and fly fisher, notes that pattern inventor John Wilson (1753-1825) fashioned the first version using buttercup petals to imitate the yellow-bodied flies he saw in Scotland. And Klein still fishes the pattern today. Tim Flagler demonstrates how to a tie a pattern he calls the Frozen Fox "because it incorporates just two materials, Ice Dub and Arctic Fox fur. By mixing and matching the colors of the two materials, it can be produced in a huge range of color combinations." |
