The Beauty of Classic Wet Flies
“THE FLIES from the 1800s and early 1900s," says fly historian and tier Fred Klein, "tell a story of their originators: the men and women in pursuit of wild trout and salmon." This week we're happy to share some of the beauty connected to that history: Klein's wet flies inspired by the great pattern creators of that period.

The Surf Candy, authored by Bob Popovics in late 1980s, probably did the most to cement Popovics's place in fly tying history. This week Tim Flagler offers an updated video guide to tying this classic and very effective pattern. "It’s a remarkably realistic and effective fly," says Flagler, "and works especially well for albies and bonito."
