"Who's the 'man' in the relationship?" "You're trans. Are you getting 'the surgery?'" "I bet I can turn you straight!"
These offhanded comments about sexual orientation or gender identity aren’t just invasive — would you ever ask a straight person such random, nosy questions about their sex life? — in the aggregate, they can also be really hurtful and offensive.
Unfortunately, queer people hear questions like this all the time. Senior reporter Kelsey Borresen recently asked LGBTQ folks to share some of the microaggressions they’ve had to deal with in their everyday lives. It’s a great educational piece I think everyone would benefit from reading.
