Rachel Larkins at ABtS We've just received some wonderful new work from the brilliant Rachel Larkins, and it's flying out of the gallery FAST, so don't delay if you'd like a piece by this highly collectible jeweller. For over 20 years Rachel has been pursuing her passion to create automata, figurative sculptures and jewellery influenced by the intimacy and hidden stories of small scale miniatures as well as by folklore and fairy tales. Drawn to objects which are considered precious and ephemeral - mourning jewellery holding hair, bell jars holding birds, insects and naive dolls, dioramas and ships in bottles - Rachel's work is full of myth and story. Come and discover it for yourself. |

Zoe Ansari's urban foxes What creature could be more suited to modern mythology than the urban fox or Urbana Vulpes? Slipping through the shadows and inhabiting the twilight, printmaker Zoe Ansari finds inspiration in our wild neighbours and captures them beautifully in her hand-carved, hand-printed lino print. Each is printed onto a warm cream Kitakata Paper hand-made by the Awagami factory in Japan. This and other works by Zoe feature in our current exhibition - FOLK. Come and see. We are open 11am - 5pm seven days a week. |

Backing Black Our latest exhibition has given us the opportunity to invite some new artists to exhibit in the gallery, and we are thrilled to have collage artist Kate Black taking part. Kate lives and works in Malton, North Yorkshire where she creates imagery in response to objects and events inspired by social history, artefacts and artworks found in museum and gallery collections. She’s particularly drawn to British Folk Art, textiles and children’s drawings which comes through in her work. Malton is a thriving market town, which has sheep and cattle markets each week, and is home to many horse racing stables which have inspired the horse series that features in FOLK. |
