Holiday Happenings at The Joy House By: Ali Metcalf, Communications Director This holiday season has been busy for our ministry. We've had high school students and youth groups visit our campus to spread holiday cheer to our staff and residents. Local churches have gone above and beyond to meet needs around campus including a new basketball goal for our boy's home donated by Foothills Community Church and a substantial amount of our Boy's and Girl's Homes' Christmas Wish List items being provided by Revolution Church. The girls worked busily to make delicious hard tack candy as gifts of gratitude for our staff and volunteers and celebrated the season together at their formal Christmas dinner. The boys were treated to a fun night out watching the Harlem Globetrotters perform on behalf of the Turners and were delighted to have their "home away from home" filled with Christmas beauty thanks to many who donated decorations. Both homes were treated to a home-cooked, holiday meal at Ms. Robin's house followed by a special field trip to see the Christmas lights at Cherokee Veteran's Park. Our Counseling Center is finishing the year with record numbers serving 240+ individuals and families in 2018. This season has certainly reminded us of how blessed our ministry is and how grateful we are to be allowed to continue to do what we do for the glory of God. Thank you for a wonderful year. We look forward to pressing on in 2019! |

| Counselor's Corner - Comfort and Joy It’s that time of year again, everywhere you look people buying gifts for loved ones, getting engaged, getting married, sharing baby announcements, and posting pictures of beautiful family bliss. It really is such a joyful season. There are twinkling lights everywhere and children are bursting with imagination and anticipation. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years come every year, for some they come with joy and excitement, for others they come with dread and deep pain. Some of you may say “but Christmas is a time for advent, to be expectant on the Lord to do great things!” Yes, that is all true and much more but please do not forget it is also a time of sorrow for many, a time when the ache of loneliness feels like too much to bare and too much to share. |

Ready to Receive a Dollar-For-Dollar Tax Credit? You can make a difference in the lives of our Joy House Academy students through dollars you are already going to spend and receive dollar-for-dollar tax credit. This is accomplished through the Georgia Qualified Education Expense Tax Credit Program. Each year, the State of Georgia allows a portion of state income tax dollars to be designated for school scholarships. The portion for 2019 has been increased to $100 million. This program allows individuals and companies to receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for donations for student scholarships at accredited non-profit private schools in Georgia, including The Joy House Academy. You can get all the details about this program by clicking HERE. You may also contact Steve Lowe directly for more information at 706.253.7569 or [email protected]. Scholarship contributions can have a significant impact on supporting The Joy House program, as nearly 20% of our budget needs are for education. Thank you for your consideration! |
