Ukraine scandal

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the top Ukraine expert in the White House, told House impeachment investigators on Tuesday the White House transcript of a phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine's president omitted crucial words and phrases, and his attempts to include them in the official record were rebuffed [New York Times].

A shouting match erupted between Democrats and Republicans while they were interviewing Lt. Col. Vindman behind closed doors. Democrats accused Republicans of trying to unmask the anonymous whistleblower who started the whole impeachment inquiry [CNN].

President Trump's allies and defenders attempted to smear Lt. Col. Vindman by questioning his loyalty and patriotism. Vindman is a career military man who earned a Purple Heart in Iraq [Politico].

A State Department official will testify on Wednesday that former national security advisor John Bolton warned about the influence President Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani had over the Trump administration's Ukraine policy [CNN].

Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee believe Gordon Sondland, ambassador to the European Union, may have perjured himself when he claimed nobody in the White House raised concerns to him about the president's actions toward Ukraine [The Hill].

Impeachment

Democrats in Congress unveiled their proposed rules for the public phase of the impeachment proceedings. The House will vote on the resolution Thursday [New York Times].

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned on Tuesday that President Trump may shut down the government next month in order to create a "diversion" away from impeachment [Politico].

Whoa!

President Trump kept acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney in the dark about the raid that killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi [NBC News].

Abortion

A federal judge blocked an Alabama law that banned nearly all abortions in the state [Politico].

2020

A new poll shows voters in the U.S. are split on whether the country is ready for a gay president [Politico].

Immigration

Nearly 475,000 migrant families were arrested at the US-Mexico border over the past year, which is a 342 percent increase [CNN].

Climate change
