Meet Us in St Louis! for A Prairie Home Companion During the 43-year run of A Prairie Home Companion, many of the December radio shows became fan favorites. The holiday season always seems to put most people in a festive mood, so why not get together and celebrate in song. Just imagine being one of a chorus of voices on “Silent Night,” finding the answer to a couple of life’s persistent questions, checking in on Dusty and Lefty, getting some advice from Mom, and hearing a few holiday tunes. That’s our aim: a fun-packed show. And we want you to join us in St. Louis! The Fabulous Fox Theatre hosted many live A Prairie Home Companion broadcasts. For this show, Garrison Keillor will be joined by the Royal Academy of Radio Actors — featuring Sue Scott, Tim Russell, and Fred Newman — plus the Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band led by Richard Dworsky performing with Pat Donohue, Dean Magraw, Diane Tremaine, and Jeff Carney. Plus special guest artists, including soprano Maria Jette and vocalist Heather Masse, among others. GUEST PERFORMERS FOR OUR HOLIDAY SHOW! ABOUT RICHARD DWORSKY AND THE GUY’S ALL-STAR SHOE BAND: Who better to bring Christmas cheer to the season than our talented band! They will pick a few holiday tunes, provide support to our vocalists and underscores and background music in all the sketches, and lead the audience in a sing-a-long of Holiday classics and other favorites. They always were the hardest working band in radio. The Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band is led by longtime Prairie Home Companion music director Richard Dworsky. Keyboard player, composer, and improviser in any style, he also wrote the show’s script themes and underscores. Chet Atkins called Pat Donohue (guitar) one of the greatest fingerpickers in the world today. And Pat writes songs too — recorded by Suzy Bogguss, Kenny Rogers, and others. His recordings include Blue Yonder and Vicksburg Blues (a collaboration with Butch Thompson). Guitarist Dean Magraw studied at the University of Minnesota and the Berklee School of Music in Boston. His first recording, 1994’s Broken Silence, won the NAIRD award for Best Acoustic Instrumental Album of the Year. Dean has since turned out an array of dazzling albums. HOLIDAY SHOW LIVESTREAM BUNDLE Our holiday themed shows from Town Hall in New York on November 26th (7:30P ET) and from The Fabulous Fox Theater in St. Louis on December 15th (7:00 PM CT corrected time) will be both livestreamed by our partners at Mandolin. We heard from many listeners what a great job did on the show from the Ryman and how disappointed they were that we couldn't offer the same for the Washington DC program. Thus, we have arranged for a special bundle price on the holiday themed shows so invite a few friends over for a listening party and enjoy the sounds of an old radio show via some new technology from the comfort of your living room! Both shows will be LIVE and also available for 48 hours afterwards for your repeated viewing pleasure. And, since we are not on the radio clock, we tend to run a. bit longer than the old radio show . . . probably about 3 hours of comedy, sketches and songs for each show. ORDER the livestream >>> |

Tis The Season for Gifts! The store is open and new items are being prepped to ship. Our first holiday promotion of the season continues with a free copy of Wobegon Boy for each order over $25 through November 21st. This is in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Garrison's return to the town of Lake Wobegon in novel form. Wobegon Boy has become a favorite among fans and was also the subject of a movie script that has yet to be produced. The 'From the Archives' series of releases are available in the store with an additional 20% discount for purchasing any 2 or more. These News from Lake Wobegon stories were first performed on A Prairie Home Companion when the show went national in 1980 and have not been heard from since the mid '80s as they have been locked away in the archives. Now, everyone can return to their favorite small town and listen to America's favorite storyteller. 1980 1981 1982 1983 |
