Meet the Sullivan Sisters, the Rising Generation at Acme Bread Company

Just over 40 years ago, Steve and Suzie Sullivan founded Acme Bread in Berkeley, with a mission to provide the best possible bread at affordable prices, while prioritizing employee welfare and sourcing sustainable ingredients.

Since then, the bakery has grown to also include a stand at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, a retail location in the San Francisco Ferry Building, and wholesale bakeries in West Berkeley and South San Francisco. The Sullivan family has grown, too. Now, their daughter Rachel, who recently transitioned from working on Frog Hollow Farm, and her older sister, Becca, are actively following in their parents’ footsteps.

Intern Spotlight: Erica Tate

Erica joined Foodwise in August 2023 through the College Corps program at SFSU, and she supported our Foodwise Teens program throughout the 2023-2024 school year. "I love the sense of community I feel when creating new dishes with the teens," she says.

On Thursdays, What the Shuck is popping up with Building Equity partner En2Action. Visit chef Jasmine for Cajun and Creole dishes.

This Saturday (June 15) and next Saturday (June 22), visit Kuali in the back plaza for spicy salsa macha, made in Oakland by husband-and-wife duo Rodrigo and Janeen Cruz.

Mission Community Market: Featured Vendors

Coastside Farms and Specialties enjoys bringing their valued customers top quality sustainable smoked fish products. Visit them on Thursdays.

Visit Green Thumb Farm in the Mission on Thursdays and at the Ferry Plaza on Tuesdays and Saturdays for fresh produce and a new line of bar soaps.
