Meet the Forward 50

Every year we publish the Forward 50, a list of remarkable people who have had a particular impact on our communities. This year, we’re asking them to join our Editor-in-Chief, Jodi Rudoren, for “50 American Jews, 10 conversations,” a weekly series of Zoominars about …whatever is on their minds.

Join the first conversation with Halie Soifer of the Jewish Democratic Council of America; Caroline Dorn of @rogueshul; James Bennet, former Opinion Editor of The New York Times; and Rabbi Susan Talve, founding rabbi of Central Reform Congregation.

From civil rights to anti-racism

In advance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, join us as we reflect on the relationships between Blacks and Jews as well as the complexities across our interwoven communities.

Join Professor Anthea Butler, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Africana Studies, University of Pennsylvania; Professor Marc Dollinger, author of “Black Power, Jewish Politics;” Ginna Green, Fellow of the Kogod Research Center, Shalom Hartman Institute of North America; and Professor Susannah Heschel, Eli M. Black Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies, Dartmouth College as we explore our past, present and future together. The talk will be moderated by Forward editor in chief, Jodi Rudoren.

The classic Israeli dessert you never heard of

To kick off the Jewish Arts Collaborative Boston's (JArts Boston) “Taste of Israel Restaurant Week,” join Forverts Editor Rukhl Schaechter as she makes a classic Israeli dessert: tea biscuit cake, or ugat biskvitim (עוגת ביסקויטים) as it’s known in Hebrew. It’s easy to make and you don’t even need an oven!

The baking session will be followed by a Q&A with Rukhl and Forward National & Food Editor, Rob Eshman where the two will discuss the cake’s history and relevance.
