She may be young and only qualified as a nurse for two years - but her sacrifice has made a real difference. Ivy, like many others, made the difficult decision to stay away from her family during the Covid-19 crisis and instead bunk up in a hotel while working at the critical Nightingale hospital in Manchester. It was a brave decision to make. Not only because of the challenges she knew she would face at the sharp end of tackling this dangerous virus and the uncomfortable practicalities of working long hours in PPE - but also because it was open ended. Who knew when she would be able to return to see her family? This situation was particularly serious for Ivy as her dad was shielding. Now, after months away, a reunion is on the cards finally after Ivy has completed her required two weeks in quarantine. And this is just Ivy’s story. There’s been a lot of talk about thanking those working in the NHS but hearing the realities, tough calls and sacrifices really brings the reality home. Hopefully soon all will be reunited with their families. Nicola Adam Deputy Editor Here are some of our top stories from today... | |
