CHICAGO:Illinois’ oldest nonprofit organization, Chicago Scots, is celebrating its 176th anniversary this year and has announced the return of its Kilted Classic golf tournament. The 2022 iteration marks the 21st annual edition of the sporting event, which is set to take place on Sept. 29 at Cantigny Golf Course from 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Players can enter the tournament as a foursome, pair, or single via Chicago Scots’ Eventbrite.
MIAMI: Albizu University, a private university based in San Juan, Puerto Rico—with a branch campus in Miami—has appointment Dr. Nelson Soto as its president. In the role, Soto will help lead the educational institution, including the expansion of its South Florida footprint. Previously, Soto served as the associate professor and administrator of Union Institute & University, Indiana University, Purdue, the University of Missouri, and the University of Cincinnati.
NEW YORK:The NYU School of Professional Studies Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality has launched the Hospitality Innovation (HI) Hub Incubator in collaboration with Phocuswright, a leading travel industry research authority. The partnership aims to advance innovation, guidance, and entrepreneurship for students, startups, and the university community. Phocuswright will provide the HI Hub Incubator and the students of the Tisch Center of Hospitality with access to its complete library of research reports and analysis, data visualization tools, and industry insights.
OAK BROOK, ILL.:The Hyatt Lodge is hosting a community blood drive to combat the current blood shortage across the U.S. The drive will take place Sept. 1 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the hotel’s ballroom, and in honor of the Hyatt Lodge’s director of sales and marketing, Michelle Marvin. She’s a local resident and the recent recipient of a blood transfusion that helped in her battle of a rare form of breast cancer. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged and can be made on Versiti’s website. All attendees will receive a $15 e-gift card.
TUCSON, ARIZ.:The award-winning wellness destination Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa has appointed Matthew Demery as the new executive chef. In the role, Demery will elevate Miraval’s culinary offerings while focusing on conscious cooking and mindful eating. He most recently served as the executive sous chef at Grand Hyatt SFO, and previously led his team at Park Hyatt Washington D.C. to achieve a Michelin Star.
