Monday, 18 October 2021 MEDIA ADVISORY Launch of a new World Health Organization position paper on building health systems resilience for universal health coverage and health security during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond When: Tuesday, 19 October 2021, 12.00 to 14.00 CEST The new WHO paper highlights the critical need to ensure that health is positioned at the heart of discussions about post-pandemic socioeconomic recovery and transformation. It calls for renewed and heightened national and global commitment to build resilient health systems that will be strong enough to keep people safe - now and in the longer term - through the integration of universal health coverage and health security efforts. This will require countries to: - invest in primary health care and essential public health functions while addressing gaps in health systems foundations
- strengthen preparedness to tackle all forms of public health threats
- ensure whole-of-government and whole-of-society engagement to position health as central to socioeconomic growth and resilience
Speakers: - Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General
- Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Deputy Director-General
- Dr Mike Ryan, Executive Director, WHO Health Emergencies Programme
- Dr Suraya Dalil, Director of WHO Special Programme on Primary Health Care
