Migrant Children's Project Newsletter March 2018 Follow us on Twitter If you have used our guidance and resources recently, and want to inform our work for the coming year, please take two minutes to complete our short survey here. New application fees New fees for immigration and nationality applications will come into force on 6 April 2018. Alongside this, the government has proposed that the Immigration Health Surcharge migrants will be expected to pay with their limited leave applications will double later this year to £400 a year, making it increasingly difficult for those needing to regularise their immigration status. Want to know what this means for migrant children, families and young people? See our briefing here. New fact sheet: immigration bail Our new fact sheet covers information on the new immigration bail provisions, who they will impact, and practical steps on how to address these changes. The new immigration bail can now affect any child or young person who does not have leave to enter or remain, but needs it to live in the UK, and can now place conditions on individuals who wish to study. We are starting to see young people receive 'immigration bail' with a 'no study' condition meaning that they are blocked from education. If this happens they should always seek urgent legal advice about whether this could be changed. Child trafficking and 'county lines' We have recently collaborated with the Youth Justice Legal Centre ('YJLC') on a guide about 'county lines' and trafficking. Aimed at criminal lawyers and professionals working with children, the YJLC guide provides both information and practical guidance on county lines gangs, child trafficking and modern slavery defences for children. For more information on child trafficking, see our fact sheets here. If you have queries about these or other issues, please contact our advice line on 0207 636 8505 or email [email protected].
