New fact sheets: guidance for individuals making immigration applications

CCLC is ending the year as we started it... with new fact sheets! These five new fact sheets are aimed at individuals wanting to regularise their status, and contain general guidance on making immigration applications:

1. Which application should I make?
This fact sheet contains information on possible immigration applications that undocumented children, families or young people might make to gain status in the UK.

2. Legal representation for your immigration case
CCLC would always recommend that you get advice and representation from a regulated legal representative where possible. Our fact sheet has information on legal aid eligibility, options for those who are not eligible for legal aid and general information on what makes a good lawyer.

3. Writing a covering letter to the Home Office
When sending an application to the Home Office, it is good to write a covering letter to send with it. In this letter you can write down the type of application you are making, which documents you are sending with it and why you think you meet the requirements set out in the rules. For more information on writing covering letters to the Home Office, click here to view our full fact sheet.

4. Writing a chasing letter to the Home Office
Once an immigration application has been sent to the Home Office, a decision should be made within six months. If you have waited for more than six months, and want to find out what has happened with your case, see our fact sheet on writing a chasing letter to the Home Office.

5. Appealing to the First Tier Tribunal
Our fact sheet includes some important things you need to know about: lodging an appeal, preparing an appeal, and representing yourself at an appeal.

For more information on the options for a child, young person or family with an immigration issue, please also see our detailed guides published this year:
