| Former employees of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks who stayed on following the merger with Charter Communications learned quickly that their new company runs a pretty tight ship, as New Charter moved last week to eliminate working from home, wearing jeans at the office and TWC's summer hours program. more | WHY THIS MATTERS: In a memo outlining the changes, Charter HR chief Paul Marchand noted that Charter's stricter stance ensures a consistent workplace policy across corporate and systems-level locations, writing, "Perception matters, and a different standard for 'Corporate' employees is not consistent with the values we want to project," but sources said many new employees were taken aback by the "tone" of the memo.

| Content Companies Commend Box-Ditching Effort | Major content companies 21st Century Fox, Time Warner Inc., Viacom, CBS and Scripps offered their support for the basics of cable operators' "ditch the box" set-top proposal, but said it needed tweaking to ensure content protections. more | WHY THIS MATTERS: The companies told top aides to Republican FCC commissioner Ajit Pai that the apps-based MVPD plan offers a "constructive foundation" for ensuring consumer choice, but needs clarifications with regard to ensuring programmers have "enforceable contractual rights against competitive device manufacturers and MVPDs." | Disney Nabs Stake in MLBs Streaming Division: Report | The Walt Disney Co. has inked a deal to acquire a one-third stake in the video-streaming technology services division of MLB Advanced Media. more | WHY THIS MATTERS: A stake in the division, which specializes in streaming infrastructure and distribution services, could help Disney strengthen its digital strategy as programmers -- particularly HBO, Showtime and Starz -- continue to develop and launch direct-to-consumer OTT service offerings. |
