School's out forever; family leave in a killing; systemic State Police problems
By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editorSCHOOL'S OUT FOREVER: Taxpayers spent $3 million renovating the McDonogh 11 schoolhouse after Hurricane Katrina, then spent more money to move it - several times - when University Medical Center was built in New Orleans. On Wednesday, to the horror of architectural preservationists, demolition began on the building. FAMILY LEAVE: Two and a half years after Ariana Runner pleaded guilty to her role in the armed robbery that ended in the brutal killing of a Kenner Raising Cane’s manager, a judge on Wednesday granted her request to be released from prison so she can care for her ill mother. SYSTEMIC: The federal investigation of Ronald Green's death at the hands of Louisiana State Police has expanded, attorneys say, into a broader inquiry into systemic problems within the law enforcement agency. All this and much more are in today’s Front Page and on NOLA.com. Thanks for starting your day with us. D.B. CORRECTION: Wednesday's Front Page incorrectly stated that the performers for the 2021 Jazz and Heritage Festival would be announced Wednesday. That announcement comes Thursday. |
