Market on Main aims to enliven downtown corner

Developers hope the restaurant and entertainment venue, slated to open next month, will become both a lunchtime spot and a nightlife destination on Main Street. Market on Main will feature a wraparound deli corner, indoor and outdoor seating, an 18-tap self-serve bar and a 20-foot LED television screen.

10-digit dialing to begin soon in 803 area code

Beginning in April, a new 839 area code will be overlaid in Chester, Richland, Sumter, Aiken and Allendale counties. When the new area code is activated, people making local calls within the 803 area code will have to dial 10 digits.

Longshoremen’s union placed under trusteeship

The International Longshoremen’s Association has placed Local 1422 under trusteeship pending an investigation, according to a spokesman for the international group. The spokesman said he could not give further details about the matter.
