A Note From The Festival Director: Sarah Allen | |
|
| Hello, We are really excited to announce a new home city for MozFest in March 2021: Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This is a great opportunity for evolution, transformation, and growth for the festival and the internet health movement. During many conversations over the last 4 months, we have been consistently impressed with the alignment in common values between those we met from Amsterdam and Mozilla, as well as the enthusiasm they brought to the proposal process. Our common goals for progressive change in areas of AI, digital rights, and digital literacy, with community inclusion at the fore, will make us great partners in executing a festival that will be a convening force for supporting a more open and healthy internet for all. Learn more about the move to Amsterdam and the new timing on the blog here. See you in Amsterdam! Sarah PS. Have questions? You’re invited to join a MozFest AMA on Wednesday, March 18 in the #general channel. Session 1: 9am-10am GMT/5-6am ET Session 2: 5:30-6:30pm GMT/1:30-2:30pm ET |

“The Mozilla festival is bringing together a lot of people who are doing great things for the internet. Amsterdam can give the festival an extra boost. Inclusion, equality, openness, are all things that align with our city’s focus. The Netherlands are well known for fostering these areas and we embody these values in our city.” - Paul Suijkerbuijk, Open Data Advocate from the Netherlands When Paul saw a tweet about MozFest moving to a new city, he enthusiastically tweeted back: “You should come to Amsterdam!” This festival advocate was the spark that kicked off many months of exciting conversations between the MozFest team, the city of Amsterdam, and key potential partners. Amsterdam exudes the MozFest spirit by championing digital rights globally, extolling solid principles to protect data transparency, privacy, and internet access for citizens. The role of “the city” is ever more powerful, as our urgency regarding the issues of the digital world grows. There are several cities with significant power to improve the health of the internet ecosystem, and Amsterdam is one city that is setting a model for other cities to follow. Our partnership will tap into the local robust and eclectic community of creative thinkers to enhance the maker vibe, the creative energy, the organised chaos, and the unexpected and beautiful collaborations that define the festival. |
