Welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Thursday, June 16. Wednesday was a busy day for Saints news as the local media got a chance to talk to Demario Davis, Marcus Davenport and C.J. Gardner-Johnson for the first time this offseason. And plenty of news came out of those sessions. Davenport has dealt with his share of injuries during his four-year career in New Orleans. But his latest one is a doozy. It’s not everyday that a player has to recover from an amputation. Luke Johnson has the story on Davenport’s bizarre medical situation. Davis, meanwhile, made a splash of his own. The star linebacker discussed his desire to sign a long-term contract extension with the team and how he hopes it will allow him to end his career in New Orleans. Still, he won't let contract talks distract him from the task at hand. “This season is for my teammates and this city.” My story on the Saints All-Pro linebacker and his state of mind as the season approaches. And finally, learn from my latest column about the cool way the Saints are honoring two of their all-time greatest players: Archie Manning and Drew Brees. This unofficial policy is an “unsaid thing” in the Saints locker room, but all the players recognize and respect it, running back Mark Ingram said. That’s it for today. We’ll have more news from Thursday’s final practice as the Saints conclude their three-day minicamp. So make sure you check NOLA.com throughout the day for all the coverage. Until next time, Jeff Duncan |
