March 8, 2024 | Today’s news and insights for manufacturing leaders NOTE FROM THE EDITOR President Joe Biden was back behind the podium last night for the State of the Union address. During his remarks, the president boasted of the strides the country has made in manufacturing under his leadership. Biden highlighted the CHIPS and Science Act and the billions of dollars being poured into semiconductor research and development. He called out the thousands of jobs the sector is creating, many of which do not require a four-year degree. “Where is it written that we can’t be the manufacturing capital of the world? We are. We will,” Biden said during his remarks. And on auto manufacturing, Biden pointed to his “great friend” United Auto Workers’ President Shawn Fain who sat in the audience, lauding the deal the union struck with the Big Three automakers earlier this year after a six-week strike.
