A victory that slightly stings |
The Detroit Lions came out strong Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, opening with a 27-6 lead heading into halftime. Then, the worst happened. Star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson broke his right tibia while sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the third quarter. He will undergo immediate surgery. Afterwards, the Lions continued to score and blew the Cowboys out of the water with a 47-9 win, marking their first victory against Dallas in more than a decade. With Marcus Davenport already out for the season, the Lions are now without their top two edge rushers heading into next week’s NFC North showdown against the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings. |

Peak fall colors are occurring in the western half of the Upper Peninsula now. Man faces murder charge for allegedly killing homeowner while posing as DTE worker |
The latest: One of two men who allegedly killed a homeowner and tied up his wife – while pretending to be utility workers – has been charged with murder. Carlos Jose Hernandez, of Dearborn, awaits extradition from Louisiana. Police say it’s unclear if Hernandez will waive extradition. Allegan County: Several people enjoying a hayride in Trowbridge Township were injured Saturday evening when a suspected drunken driver crashed into the hayride. Hospitalized: Charges are pending against an allegedly impaired driver who injured a pair of Michigan State Police troopers in a crash. |

After Tigers’ whirlwind finish, take a breath and reflect on season to remember |
Bright future: There was something refreshing about the end-of-season Detroit Tigers clubhouse after their loss in Game 5 of the American League Division Series on Saturday in Cleveland. There was disappointment, sure, but no anger, no tears. Even that twinge of sad nostalgia that normally accompanies end-of-season goodbyes wasn’t really present. The players who ended the 2024 season wearing Tigers uniforms are almost universally young. Every single one is under contract for next season. It’s fair to expect that the vast majority of these guys will be reconnecting in Lakeland, Fla., in about four months. It took the Detroit Red Wings only 48 hours to plug the leaky holes in their defense and goaltending in their season-opener. Nashville threw everything but the kitchen sink at them on Saturday. Cam Talbot stopped 42 shots, and his teammates blocked 31 others in a 3-0 victory at Little Caesars Arena. In college basketball: Facing Tom Izzo's alma mater, Michigan State rolled to a 70-53 victory against Northern Michigan in an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon at the sold-out Superior Dome in Marquette. |
