The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Hello! We've got a lot of important and interesting stories for you today. Here are some highlights:

Mandatory COVID vaccines

About 84 million Americans could soon be required to get COVID vaccinations, or their employers could face federal fines of $14,000 per violation. This story explains who the new mandates would cover and how they will be enforced.

And, in case you missed it from yesterday, a version of the vaccine for kids is now out. This story explains how to get signed up in the Baton Rouge area.

Fitting the mold of an LSU coach

Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker is widely seen as a leading candidate to replace Ed Orgeron at LSU next year. His stock went up after a spectacular win against hated rivals Michigan last weekend.

But does he fit the mold to be an LSU coach?

Scott Rabalais has covered a lot of legendary LSU coaches. This column explains why he thinks Tucker fits.

Name change controversy

The leaders of Louisiana College, an 115-year-old Baptist school in Pineville, want to change its name to Louisiana Christian University. They say the new name shows how the college is growing to include post-graduate degrees while still highlighting its Christian roots.

But that decision has caused a kerfluffle among some alumni who don't like the change. You can read all about it here.

Thanks for reading, and have a great evening!
