Man in court on murder charge

A man charged with the murder of a 37-year-old woman from Chorley has appeared in court.

The body of Fiona Robinson, 37, was found at an address in Congress Street after police responded to reports of a sudden death on Friday.

Jason Gowen, of Congress Street, Chorley was arrested at the scene and appeared over video link at Preston Crown Court today. The 26-year-old did not enter a plea with a trial date set for September 11.

Elsewhere, a man has been arrested on suspicion of deliberately running over another man after a late-night row in Coppull.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the hit and run in Spendmore Lane where a man in his 20s was knocked down, close to the Co-op shop.

The driver fled the scene and the injured man was left in the street with a serious head injury and other injuries, including a number of broken teeth.

Witnesses told police that a group of people had been seen arguing in the street moments before the man was knocked down.

A 26-year-old man from Chorley later arrested and taken into custody. He was arrested on suspicion of assault – GBH and possession of class B or C drugs. He has since been released on bail.
