Roos on the loose: Fort Lauderdale gets a jumpy new resident Florida is home to all manner of unusual critters and species, but kangaroos are admittedly rare. So when a kangaroo gets loose in the city of Fort Lauderdale, you know that something’s gone awry. Jack, a Kangaroo belonging to a local resident, managed to escape his home by punching through a gate. This set off a neighborhood-wide chase between Jack and police, who were unable to keep up with his incredible leaps and bounds. But Jack eventually got tired and was apprehended and moved to a horse stable where his fate would be decided. Sadly, Jack’s owner can’t keep him in his home anymore because the city isn’t “zoned for kangaroos.” But the story doesn’t end badly. The owner has some well-connected friends with permits to own exotic animals that will be taking care of Jack from here on. It pays to know people, I guess.
