Making Friends for Your Family's Sake

What were your parents’ friendships like?

Were there long evenings where the adults talked late into the night while the kids fell asleep watching movies? Or is it hard for you to remember more than a handful of times when your parents played host?

How you watched your parents practice friendship can deeply affect the way you approach relationships in your own life. While “making friends” sounds like language that belongs to the playground or Kindergarten classroom, many adults struggle to do it.

KB Newton explores the challenges of friendship on this week’s episode of Where Ya From?. Driven to help people build authentic relationships through having hard conversations, Newton started an organization called HEARTConvos to help people do just that.

Whether your life is rich with great friendships or you don’t need to use all of your fingers to count those you hold dear, it’s never too late to start moving toward meaningful relationships. And think of the depth of community you can encourage your children to have throughout their lifetimes, just by making friends yourself.

As Newton says, they—and you—were created for it.
