| Stop scooping your chips By Claude Brousseau, Golf Digest Certified Teacher Wailea Golf Academy, Wailea, HI | If you are in the habit of helping your chips into the air or “scooping” your wedge shots, it might be time to simplify your short-game approach. The easiest way to do that? Use gravity to your advantage instead of powering your wedge shots with your hands and arms. To practice this, place your arms straight out, even with your shoulder, and parallel to the ground. Now let them drop and feel gravity at work as they fall. Grab a wedge and take it back slightly. Try to feel the same sensation that you did with your arms as you let the club drop into the back of the ball. Trust that the loft will do its job, and watch as the ball pops up nicely, producing a fair amount of roll. Once you’ve perfected it, the shot will feel effortless yet efficient. | |
