MAKE at ATELIER BESIDE THE SEA

Join us this Summer in our beautiful seaside Atelier to learn new skills from expert makers. Classes take place either in our dedicated workshop - a large high vaulted brick arch originally built to house fishing boast and nets, or the gallery (for cleaner work) Both spaces are spacious, well ventilated, cool and quiet but with a view of the beach and sea!. Atelier Beside the Sea is in the centre of Brighton beach, a short walk from Brighton Station.

Introduction to Sewing with Diana Uprichard

Monday 19th & 26th July 14.00 - 18.00

Our Introduction to Sewing course is for the complete beginner and for people that would like to get back into sewing. In this warm, friendly atmosphere under the expert tuition of Diana you will learn everything you need to know to get started.The course culminates in you making your very own kit bag to store your sewing essentials.

Paper Porcelain with Tamar Rose

Tuesday 20th July 10.00 - 16.00

This exciting course will appeal to anyone who is interested in creating 3D sculptures, forms and vessels. Working with paper porcelain, you will learn how to create complex structures and how to introduce a range of textures using a variety of methods and materials.

Print Your Own Tote Bag with Melissa Birch

Wednesday 21st July 10.00 - 13.00

On this course you will learn the process of designing and carving a Lino block. Melissa will guide you through how to transfer a design onto Lino and how to use specialist cutting tools to create your block for printing.

A Vintage Coastal Scene, Mixed Media Textiles with Anne Kelly

Sunday 25th July 11.00 - 16.00

Join renowned textile artist Anne Kelly for a day of hand embroidery and textiles collage to create a beautiful piece of work referencing the stunning beach front surroundings at Atelier Beside the Sea. Using coastal plants, shells and the famous beach huts as inspiration, the aim is to produce a central image, collaged and added to with lace, ribbon and stitch.

Millinery with Pea Cooper

29 July - 2nd September 18.00 - 21.00

This evening course is an ideal way to get into millinery. Suitable for beginners this course will give you all of the fundamentals in creating your own hats and headpieces. (6 evenings over 6 weeks)

Jewellery Summer School with Laila Smith

28th - 31st July

Join jeweller Laila Smith on this four day course that will introduce you to the many fundamental skills in jewellery making. Whilst creating beautiful, unique jewellery you will learn about techniques such as forming, shaping, texturing and soldering metal.
